“… you gon’ hurt your back.. draggin all them bags like that”
I found my old iPod mini hidden in my glove compartment today and decided to give it some airtime. “Bag Lady” came on and was quite unfamiliar to me. I’ve listened to it 253 times on my iPod, [hell, I've even sang it in Karaoke once or twice] but this time was different…
Baggage (noun) \ˈba-gij\ – intangible things (as feelings, circumstances, or beliefs) that get in the way (emotional baggage)
“One day all them bags gon get in your way”
[Plastic Bags] “I want someone without baggage,” is the average response you’ll receive from someone when asked what they’re looking for in a mate. Baggage could be considered kids, drama, baby mother(s)/father(s), ex relationships, emotional attachments to the past, unemployed, and the list goes on. In other words, baggage is often considered negative because this person has it and you don’t. Have the emptied groceries been regurgitated back into these bags and deemed trash?
Does this mean you don’t have baggage of your own?
“Bag lady, you gon miss your bus.. you can’t hurry up cause you got too much stuff. When they see you comin … take off runnin from you…”
No!
[Canvas Bags] We can meet someone without the aforementioned baggage and still be left feeling unsatisfied. We possess our own luggage called EXPECTATIONS. [Luggage = Baggage] We go into situations with our [laundry] bags separated. One bag carries, “What I won’t accept.” “What I will accept,” is in the other. Some of us have a third bag, “Settling.” Has the dirty laundry been washed, replaced, or recycled? Are these bags invisible because the others are exposed?
Is canvas better than plastic?
“So where my garbage bag lady
let it go let it go let it go let it go
And what about the grocery bag lady
I bet ya love could make it better
Im talkin to my Gucci bag ladies
let it go let it go let it go let it go
And what about my paper sack ladies”
Random Question/Thought: Are we all hypocrites to the “no baggage” rule? OR! Should we specify the types of bags we’re willing to help carry?
“Light pack when ya pack ya bags ladies….”
As always,

I like that you touched this topic. Truth is, if you really love and care about a person, you will assist them with their baggage until it is all unpacked. If they really love you, they won’t wait for you to unpack it…they’ll do it themselves.
